The Documentation of a Photographic Adventure

Yesterday Annie, Cindy and I went on a drive just outside Warrensburg in search of “photographic” material. We drove for a while before we found something remotely interesting. I decided that I need to take a few pics of the photographers on this little journey just to savor the memories… :)

Here are my photog buddies at work!

Nick Knight — Photographer

Short Bio:

Nick Knight is mostly known for his “out there” fashion photography. He has set a bar for fashion photographers to follow. To be able to photograph the fashion world with a different kind of eye. He is currently living in London, England with his wive and children. Still an avid photographer.

My 2 cents:

To tell you the truth some of Nick Knights work scared me a bit, and other parts I was in aww. I like that he has a sense of variety and imagination. His variety ranges from fashion from which is work is widely known to plants and flowers. He will defentetly go down in my book as a memorable and inspiring photographer.

Bill Brandt: Photographer

Short Bio:

Bill Brandt is a German born, British photographer that flourished in the 20th century.  He began a degree in architecture, but soon found a passion for photography.  He studied under Man Ray for a short period of time which inspired his surreal approach to photography.   During WWII he documented the Germanbombing raids in London as a freelancer.  After WWII he went back to his surreal approach shooting mostly nudes, landscapes and portraits withhigh contrast with mostly a wide angle lens.

My 2 cents:

I have to say my favorite lens is my wide angle, so I’m liking his surreal wide angle nude shots.  He distorts the images mostly in a semi-flattering way.  The female nudes that I saw their legs went on for miles.  In his other photography I enjoyed his high contrast and I appreciate his perspective.

Jacques-Henri Lartigue - Photographer

Background:

Jacques-Henri Lartigue began taking photographs when he was only 6 years old.  He grew up near Paris, France during the turn of the 20th century.  He did not establish his name by being a photographer, but as a painter.  Most of his life he focused on painting being his full time job and photography was a hobby.  He kept an open mind and was not influenced by the style other photographers of this time took on because it was only a hobby and he photographed for his own personal interest.

My 2 cents:

I enjoyed his work and felt the “honesty” of his photography.  He seemed to photograph things the way they are with out interference.  He photographed things from the first flight in France to Ladies on the boulevard the way he saw them.

A few Samples of Jacques-Henri Lartigue photographic work:
